A wonderful introduction to the Highland single malt Scotch distillery, Ben Nevis 10 Year Old is a chocolaty, toffee-like delight. Owned by the same company as Nikka Whisky, Ben Nevis is often considered to be one of the most traditional distillers in Scotland. Its spirit character is rich and deep – qualities that come through in this single malt. There’s a subtle waft of peat running through alongside the sweetness, giving the bottling a decadent depth. A great value dram to share with friends.
Nose: Dry ripe fruits and spice, lots of citrus notes with a hint of orange candy with orange marmalade peel and crisp sesame seed snaps.
Palate: Some creamy toffee with the rich but not over domination peat tone, some dark chocolate and golden honey with fresh cut hay and almond, whipped salted toffee caramel with a growing spice. Some citrus and crushed spinach leaf.
Finish: Medium length and silky smooth with more of that spice and gentle peat.
