Balmenach is celebrated as an incredibly traditional Speyside distillery – and this expression sits perfectly alongside that reputation. It’s made from a vatting of first- and second-fill Oloroso sherry casks, and it works perfectly with the slightly meaty character the distillery gets from its worm tub condensers. This expression has been released by independent bottler Càrn Mòr.
Tasting note:
Nose: Inviting and sumptuous, there are incense-like notes along with nutmeg, almond, raisins, cloves, and cinnamon buns.
Palate: Thick and mouth-coating, hot cross buns emerge along with orange peel, marzipan and sweet spices – plus a hint of the meatiness.
Finish: Long, drying out into baking spices.
