Ardbeg 19 Year Old Traigh Bhan Batch 6 46.2% 70cl
The sixth release in Islay distillery Ardbeg’s Traigh Bhan series sees the characteristically heavily spirit aged in both ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks for 19 years. The collection takes its name from the stunning Singing Sands beach, located just the other side of local town Port Ellen. Complex, rich, and mouthwateringly smoky, it’s a must-taste expression for fans of the Islay maker.
Official tasting notes:
Nose:
A curious hint of olive oil greets the senses. Following closely behind are gentle waves of tar, soot, chocolate ginger and freshly cut grass. A splash of water releases a surge of more classic Ardbeg aromas in fennel, peppermint, eucalyptus, and tarry rope.
Palate:
A slightly oily mouthfeel reveals an intense array of notes that cascade across the palate. An undeniable minty sweetness flows into baked bread, creosote, coal tar soap and smoked pineapple. Deep, rich flavours bubble beneath the surface, with dark chocolate, peppermint creams, camphor and a distinct whiff of bonfire.
Finish:
A long finish carries rich ripples of coffee and liquorice that slowly ebb away.
