Aberlour 33 Year Old Whisky Sponge No. 92 49% 70cl
Quintessentially Speyside, Aberlour is celebrated for its interplay between dense maltiness and soft fruit. This single malt from Whisky Sponge is very much in-keeping with this character. A vatting of two hogsheads – one spicier from 1989, one more floral from 1991 – this is a mature, well-rounded expression that is bright, balanced and gloriously elegant. A masterclass in well-aged malt.
Tasting notes from Whisky Sponge:
Nose: layers of soft, honeyed waxes, pollens, beeswax, furniture oils, background green fruits and baked apples. Add to that some lanolin, white pepper and fruit salad juices. A really expressive and hugely enjoyable style.
Palate: great, textural arrival, with a lot of flower nectar, beeswax and flower honey impressions. Also olive oil, juniper, cedar wood and dried exotic fruits. Superb maturity and still wonderfully lively and vibrant.
Finish: long, elegantly fruity, with heather honeys, sweet dark ales, dried herbs and aged fruit liqueurs.
