ISLANDS
From the Hebrides to Orkney and beyond, Scotland’s Island distilleries have come into their own in recent years. Highland Park tells the story of a windswept existence, while Isle of Harris puts social sustainability front and centre. This is whisky from the margins – and it’s all the more enchanting for it.
HIGHLANDS
One of Scotch whisky’s most varied regions, the Highlands stretch from the Central Belt all the way up to Wick. Loch Lomond brings a chameleon-like versatility, Old Pulneney offers a peppery maritime profile from the far North. And then there’s everything in between. The rich diversity of Highland single malt is truly thrilling.
LOWLANDS
Once considered the home of gentle whiskies, today a wide range of whiskies are crafted across the region. Auchtentoshan and Glenkinchie bring a grassy lightness, while the likes of Lochlea and Bladnoch contribute an array of flavour. Never write off Lowland whiskies: there are no end of treasures to be discovered.
SPEYSIDE
The most densely populated part of Scotland when it comes to distilleries, Speyside feels like the beating heart of the country’s whisky industry. Home to titans like The Macallan and Glenfiddich as well as fan favourites Craigellachie and Strathisla, the region offers something for every whisky lover. From distillery releases to independent bottlings, get stuck into Speyside.
ISLAY
While the island might be best known for its peated expressions, there’s much more to Islay whisky than smoky whiskies. From the striking iodine-driven profiles of southern distilleries Ardbeg, Laphroaig and Lagavulin to the maritime complexities of Bunnahabhain and Bruichladdich, no two Islay whiskies are the same. Get set to explore this extraordinary whisky isle.
CAMPBELTOWN
The smallest Scotch whisky region, Campbeltown’s bottlings are revered by connoisseurs and loved by newcomers. From Springbank and Glengyle over to Glen Scotia, these in-demand makers produce a wide range of whisky styles between them. Grab a tasting glass and get exploring – there’s a vast flavour spectrum to be discovered.
