Bruxo is a modern mezcal brand that blends deep respect for Oaxacan tradition with a contemporary vision for sharing Mexico’s artisanal spirits with the world. Founded in 2010 by a group of friends passionate about preserving and promoting mezcal culture, Bruxo works closely with small-scale mezcaleros across Oaxaca, ensuring sustainable practices, fair trade, and the preservation of generational knowledge.

The name Bruxo, meaning “sorcerer” or “wizard” in Spanish, reflects the magic of mezcal-making: the transformation of the humble agave plant into a spirit of remarkable depth, character, and cultural significance.

A Network of Maestros Mezcaleros

Rather than operate a single distillery, Bruxo collaborates with multiple maestros mezcaleros in different Oaxacan villages. Each brings their own heritage, terroir, and production style, using local agave varieties and traditional methods such as:
• Pit roasting the agave in underground stone ovens, imparting signature smokiness.
• Tahona milling — crushing cooked agave with a large stone wheel pulled by mule or horse.
• Natural fermentation in open-air wooden vats.
• Copper or clay pot distillation for distinct texture and flavour.

This decentralised approach allows Bruxo to offer a portfolio that showcases mezcal’s incredible diversity.

The Bruxo Range

Bruxo numbers its mezcals rather than naming them after agave varieties, with each number representing a different recipe, agave type, or mezcalero. Standouts include:
• Bruxo No. 1 - 100% Espadín agave, soft smoke, balanced minerality, and sweet herbal notes.
• Bruxo No. 2 - Espadín infused with damiana flower, lending floral, citrus, and lightly bitter herbal tones.
• Bruxo No. 3 - A pechuga-style mezcal distilled with seasonal fruits and spices, traditionally made for celebrations.
• Bruxo No. 4 - A tobalá agave expression, more vegetal and floral, with complex minerality.
• Bruxo No. 5 - Espadín with a touch of Barril agave, offering a richer, earthier profile.
• Bruxo No. 6 - An ensamble blend of different agaves, showcasing layered flavour.
