Armand De Brignac

Armand de Brignac, often referred to as the Ace of Spades thanks to its striking metallic bottle and spade-shaped label, is one of the most prestigious Champagne brands in the world. Produced by the Cattier family in the village of Chigny-les-Roses in the Montagne de Reims, the brand blends centuries of winemaking heritage with a modern luxury identity. While the Cattier family has been making Champagne since 1763, Armand de Brignac was launched as an ultra-premium marque in the mid-2000s, quickly gaining global attention for its craftsmanship and exclusivity.

The brand is crafted entirely by hand from vineyard to bottle. Grapes are sourced from Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards in the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs, offering a mix of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier in varying proportions depending on the cuvée. Only the first and freshest portion of the cuvée press is used to ensure purity and finesse.

One of Armand de Brignac’s most distinctive winemaking practices is its multi-vintage blending. Rather than producing a standard non-vintage Champagne with a dominant base year, Armand de Brignac blends wines from three different vintages to achieve greater depth, complexity, and balance. This approach allows the wines to combine the freshness of younger vintages with the richness and maturity of older ones.

The Champagne is produced in extremely limited quantities. Only a small team of around 18 people handles every step, from hand-harvesting to riddling (turning bottles to collect the sediment) and disgorgement. Each metallic bottle is finished with hand-applied French pewter labels and polished to a mirror shine, making every bottle slightly unique.

Armand de Brignac has also released limited prestige formats, including magnums, jeroboams, and even colossal 30-litre Midas bottles, each a feat of both winemaking and presentation.

Flavour-wise, the house style is opulent yet finely balanced. The Brut Gold is vibrant and fruit-forward yet underpinned by toasted pastry and almond richness. The Rosé has depth from the Pinot Noir, with fine bubbles and a crisp, refreshing finish. All wines show meticulous winemaking precision and a silky mousse, reflecting the low-yield vineyards and careful blending.
