Single Cask

(MTP) Milroys Tasting Panel 30/08/22

Nose: Melon and subtle hints of banana and rich runny honey, some tropical notes, smooth and very fruity indeed, toffee popcorn and subtle peach, a very nice build up happens when you let this dram open in the glass.

Palate: Toasted cereal and honey glaze, fresh baked banana bread, light tropical fruits with a hint pineapple, melon and puffed wheat, a classic honey and subtle ginger note we love in a good Speyside.

Like the nose the palate has a rich building taste throughout this dram, the longer its in the glass more flavours we uncover.

Old School whisky that shines across the palate.

About Glen Moray

Glen Moray single malt Scotch whisky is a Speyside distillery renowned for its approachable style, excellent value, and pioneering use of cask finishes. Situated on the banks of the River Lossie in Elgin, Moray, the distillery has been producing whisky since 1897, when it was converted from a former brewery. Over more than a century of production, Glen Moray has earned a reputation for crafting light, fruit-forward whiskies that appeal to newcomers and seasoned drinkers alike.

In its early decades, Glen Moray was a relatively small-scale operation, with most of its whisky destined for blends. Ownership changes over the years saw the distillery expand and modernise, but its focus on an easy-drinking, Speyside character has remained constant. Today, under the ownership of La Martiniquaise-Bardinet, Glen Moray not only produces a broad single malt range but also plays a key role in blends such as Label 5.

One of Glen Moray’s distinguishing features is its willingness to experiment with a wide variety of cask types. While many of its whiskies mature in traditional American oak ex-bourbon barrels, which bring vanilla, honey, and soft spice, the distillery has been an early adopter of alternative finishes, using port, sherry, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, and even cider casks to create unique flavour profiles. This openness to innovation has helped Glen Moray stand out in a crowded Speyside market.

The core range includes:
• Glen Moray Elgin Classic — a light, floral, and fruity no-age-statement whisky, often available in various cask-finished versions.
• Glen Moray 12 Year Old — sweet malt, vanilla, and toffee balanced by orchard fruit.
• Glen Moray 15 Year Old — a combination of bourbon and sherry cask maturation, adding richer dried fruit and spice.
• Glen Moray 18 Year Old — more depth and complexity, with honey, dark chocolate, and oak polish.

Alongside these, Glen Moray produces limited editions, small-batch releases, and travel retail exclusives, as well as occasional high-strength bottlings for those who want a more intense experience of the distillery’s spirit. Independent bottlings are relatively uncommon but do appear, often highlighting either the clean, grassy freshness of younger spirit or the mellow richness of older casks.

The distillery’s location in Elgin gives it access to soft, pure water from the nearby River Lossie, contributing to the whisky’s smoothness. Long fermentation in stainless steel washbacks encourages gentle fruit esters, while the lantern-shaped copper pot stills produce a spirit that is light to medium-bodied, making it highly versatile in terms of cask maturation.

Flavour-wise, Glen Moray is typically soft and easy-going, with aromas of honey, green apple, and vanilla cream. The palate often delivers sweet malt, toffee, and gentle spice, with some expressions showing tropical fruit, wine-driven notes, or nuttiness depending on the cask type. The finish is smooth and balanced, making Glen Moray a highly approachable dram for everyday enjoyment.

Our Glen Moray Single Malt Scotch Whisky selection includes the complete core range, a variety of cask-finished expressions, and rare limited editions. Whether you’re seeking a gentle introduction to Speyside whisky or a collectible, experimental bottling, Glen Moray offers both quality and value, backed by over 125 years of whisky-making heritage.
