Whisky Sponge Edition No.85 is 10 year-old Ben Nevis distilled in 2013. The whisky was matured in refill butt before being finished in refill quarter casks for 6 months. This re-racking into refill quarter casks allowed then to bring the ABV gradually down to 52% through air exposure. The reason behind this ABV reduction was to maximise the Ben Nevis distillate character, which Decadent Drinks believe shines through best at 52%.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Sweet and nutty with soft puffs of maritime smoke
Palate: Stewed red fruits, tasted nuts and sweet peat
Finish: An earthy maritime finish.
