Auchentoshan 38 Year Old 1987 Milroy's Vintage Reserve 50.7% 70cl

Relaxed, summery Auchentoshan is known as a laid-back Lowland single malt. But 38 years in sherry has crafted something extraordinary. It’s intricate, elegant and incredibly complex, with grassy dried fruits sitting alongside dried citrus, red berry and dried earth. An incredible opportunity to savour a long-aged treasure.

Milroy’s Selection

Why We Chose It

Old, heavily sherried Auchentoshan doesn’t come around often. We spotted it so we snapped it up.  Its triple distillation results in an incredibly light spirit, crafting a clean canvas to show the quality of the sherry cask. The combination of long age, triple-distilled spirit and strong wood influence feels like a Scotch-Cognac-rum hybrid might.

Milroy’s Tasting Notes

Nose

Incredibly detailed and elegant, with a bright, cut-grass nose, with red berries and boiled sweets. Shortbread and a hoppy, ale-like quality build into peanut, nougat and rocky road, while wood spices and just-baked bread add complexity. Pear drops, iced buns and milk chocolate-covered rice cakes maintain the sweetness.

Palate

A light, almost gossamer texture holds delicate strawberry, cinnamon, nougat and hay. Pear tart and banana bread sit in the mix, along with subtle dried earth notes. There’s an ethereal quality to the wood spices that emerge with time.

Finish

Medium with more of that subtle earthiness, cinnamon and wood spices.
