Form an orderly queue: Aberargie Distillery’s very first single malt is here! This is a barley-to-bottle expression – the grains were grown on the land surrounding the lowland maker – and it marks a return to distilling for the Morrison family. Yes, the same one that sold Bowmore, Glen Garioch and Auchentoshan to Suntory in 1994. The Inaugural Release is drawn from ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks filled predominantly in 2018, distilled from 52% Golden Promise and 48% Laureate barley. Bright, juicy and chewy, it’s bottled at 48.2% ABV without chill-filtration or added colour. Rich, layered and inviting, it’s an impressive first release from the traditionally minded Aberargie.

Our tasting notes:

Nose: Brimming with ripe orchard fruits, baking spices and sweet pastry notes, it’s sunny and intricate with breakfast cereal, raisins, and a eucalyptus-like herbal element too.

Palate: Apple strudel, rich tea biscuits, toffee coins, chocolate eclairs and profiteroles all leap from the glass, along with fig rolls and a touch of marzipan, all set within a buttery texture.

Finish: Medium length with dried dark fruits, oaky spices, and a return of that leafy, herbal quality.
