A true underrated gem: Strathmills are rarely seen at this age, even from indie bottlers. Oily and rich, this is a powerful beast – an outlier for long-aged Speyside single malts. It tastes like olive oil and schwarzbrot. Totally delicious, and an unusual flavour profile for Scotch.

Immediately powerful and bold, with more vibrancy than you might expect from a 35-year-old malt. Rhubarb and custard and pear drop sweets spring from the glass, alongside fresh green apple, cream soda, sweet granola and desiccated coconut notes. With time a stalky greenness emerges, softened by white chocolate, latte and icing sugar elements. Sweetness comes in waves, with melon, orange and grapefruit peels and shortbread.
Super round, waxy and creamy, but with zips of baking spice, chilli and black pepper heat. Cinnamon doughnuts, red fruits and custard cream biscuits build out the texture, with peach and melon arriving later with a few drops of water. There’s a rocket lead prickle alongside the freshness of grapefruit peels.
Medium in length with more black pepper, a subtle leafiness, and lingering cream soda.
