Kilchoman 18 Year Old Family Collection 50% 70cl
An incredibly special release from Islay’s farm distillery Kilchoman, this 100% ex-bourbon cask bottling is a heavily peated showcase of flavour from the celebrated maker. Crafted from barley peated to 50ppm at the Port Ellen Maltings, it’s been aged for 18 long years, and was selected by the family during its annual assessment of maturing stocks. Elegant yet pronounced, it’s an expressive, beautifully layered single malt, offering campfire smoke, citrus peel and orchard fruit notes.
Celebrated as Islay’s farm distillery, family-run Kilchoman was one of the first makers in the ‘new wave’ of Scotch whisky producers, setting up operations at Rockside Farm back in 2005. Founder Anthony Wills often speaks about how it was a crazy decision – but his gamble paid off, and today Kilchoman is one of Scotland’s most-loved whisky producers. Fast-forward more than two decades and his wife Kathy runs the visitor centre, and his sons are also heavily involved in the business. Together, they champion a 100% Islay philosophy, even growing their own barley on-site. Essential bottlings to try include Machir Bay, a beautifully balanced peated expression which celebrates the dramatic neighbouring beach, and Rockside, made entirely on-site from seed sowing to bottling.
