Originally distilled at the Bow Street Distillery in Dublin, Jameson operated there for nearly 200 years before production moved in the 1970s to the Midleton Distillery in County Cork. Midleton remains Jameson’s home today, producing not only the core Jameson range but also other iconic Irish whiskey labels. The modern facility blends state-of-the-art equipment with traditional pot still distillation, ensuring consistency while maintaining the signature character that has made Jameson famous worldwide.

Jameson is crafted from a mix of malted and unmalted Irish barley, grown locally and malted using a combination of traditional and modern methods. The mash is fermented before being triple-distilled in copper pot stills, a hallmark of Irish whiskey-making that results in a cleaner, lighter spirit. This triple distillation is key to Jameson’s silky-smooth profile.

Maturation takes place in a mix of ex-bourbon American oak barrels and Oloroso sherry casks from Spain. The bourbon casks contribute vanilla, honey, and toasted oak, while the sherry casks add dried fruit, nutty depth, and a gentle spice. Whiskeys are aged for a minimum of four years before blending, though many components are significantly older.

Flavour-wise, Jameson is defined by balance and smoothness. The nose often features floral perfume, orchard fruit, and gentle spice. On the palate, creamy vanilla and sweet grain meet hints of citrus and nutmeg, finishing with a soft, warming spice. This easy-going style makes it a versatile whiskey, enjoyable neat, with ice, or as the base of cocktails like the Whiskey Sour, Irish Coffee, or Jameson, ginger & lime.
