Kilchoman Machir Bay
In operation since 2005, Kilchoman was the first distillery to open on Islay in 124 years, and it quickly became a Milroy's favourite. It was one of the first farm distilleries in Scotland to use barley grown on-site for distillation. Long fermentations and narrow cuts leads to a rich and complex dram with citrus, vanilla and toffee notes interplaying. Machir Bay is a must-try if you enjoy peated, coastal malts.
Nose: Citrus with hints of creamy lemon and vanilla, some sweet fruits interplay with a rich coastal aroma, some summer tropical fruits and soft spices.
Palate: On the front of the palate a rich interaction of tropical fruits, pineapple and peaches, soft spiced toffee and dried dark fruits, a warming mid palate takes us to a rich sweet smoke and golden honeycomb, cracked pepper and hints of damson, strawberries, a touch of dark chocolate.
With a lingering coastal smoke and peat in the long finish this dram is one of those Islay single malts that keeps the palates attention. Excellent whisky from a great distillery.
