Kilchoman 14 Year Old Family Collection 50.9% 70cl
A highly in-demand bottling from Islay distillery Kilchoman, part of the celebrated Family Collection that celebrates the evolution of the maker over its two decades-plus in operation. This 14-year-old bottling was distilled back in 2011 from barley grown on Kilchoman’s very own Rockside Farm, malted on-site, and peated to 20ppm. It was then aged fully in ex-bourbon casks. The collection was chosen by the founding Wills family members as part of their annual assessment of maturing stocks, with the series showcasing the influence of both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks over time.
Celebrated as Islay’s farm distillery, family-run Kilchoman was one of the first makers in the ‘new wave’ of Scotch whisky producers, setting up operations at Rockside Farm back in 2005. Founder Anthony Wills often speaks about how it was a crazy decision – but his gamble paid off, and today Kilchoman is one of Scotland’s most-loved whisky producers. Fast-forward more than two decades and his wife Kathy runs the visitor centre, and his sons are also heavily involved in the business. Together, they champion a 100% Islay philosophy, even growing their own barley on-site. Essential bottlings to try include Machir Bay, a beautifully balanced peated expression which celebrates the dramatic neighbouring beach, and Rockside, made entirely on-site from seed sowing to bottling.
